About Me

My photo
Steve Grater
Tucson, AZ, United States
I have spent the last 23 years as a Government employee working in wildland fire management currently at Saguaro National Park. I also have a shop at The Metal Art Village here in Tucson. I provide custom metal work using traditional blacksmithing skills and modern tooling and craft to create a unique product. I started my real experience in metal work when I attended a three week blacksmithing class in 1993. It was provided by Frank Turly in Santa Fe NM. I started working part time in 1995 during the winters and weekends at the Village Blacksmith shop owned by Jerry Harris. I also have a love of hand forging blades of all types. I have pursued this interest with classes for a local smith that is one of the best in the costume hand forged knife making community. Tai Goo is his name and I will have a link on this page. I will let his work speak for itself. For the last 25 years I have been a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). I am known as Sir Stefhan Von Hessen OL in the kingdom of Atenveldt. In this group I had been very active for 24 year in the combative sport that is a full contact armored combat using rattan for the weapons. Now not as much……
